A revitalizing urban retreat center, Durham’s salt lounge has opened at 410 W. Geer Street.
Durham Salt Cave (DSC) by Ousia, an extension of the Living Arts Collective (LAC), was built with organic materials and is curated by local artists and practitioners. Both LAC and DSC were inspired by the legacy and philosophy of founder Bruce Rozeboom’s partner and co-founder, Aubrey Griffith-Zill’s, late mother, Robin Zill, who opened The Spa Center in Hillsborough in 2002. Robin’s work and dedication to rest and rejuvenation received both the Visionary award & Dedicated Contributor award from the International Spa Association in 2008.
During your visit to the salt cave, you can choose from a range of different offerings, including:
- The Salt & Sound Experience: You’ll be welcomed to recline in zero gravity loungers with built-in subwoofers that gently vibrate along with curated soundscapes playing in a dimly lit room with glowing Himalayan salt walls. Another feature of this experience is Halotherapy (Salt Therapy), a holistic therapy of pharmaceutical-grade salt dispersed in the air that is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. Benefits of the combination of salt, sound, and vibration may include respiratory health, healthier skin, sounder sleep, improved physical endurance, and overall wellness.
- Private Wellness Retreats: Bring your family, friends, or colleagues for a uniquely relaxing experience.
- Custom-curated retreats to explore various wellness, movement, team building, and relaxation techniques.
- Massage Therapy: Both individual and two-person massages are available. For optimum rest and relaxation, consider adding a restorative Salt & Sound Experience before or after your massage.
